IG - Institutional Government Zone The IG zoning permits ANY "use that is owned and OPERATED by the Federal, Provincial, Regional or Municipal Government or agency thereof, including the Airport Authority" Section 7.7 of the zoning bylaw. The differences between the Industrial and Institutional zones are the type of uses. A broad example in an industrial zone the uses are, and not limited to, the manufacturing, processing, fabricating or assembly of raw materials or goods, warehousing or bulk storage of goods. In the institutional zones for examples, are for a public or non-profit purpose and may include such uses as schools, places of worship, indoor recreation facilities, community centres, public hospitals and government buildings. The Ig - Institutional Government Zone are those lands owned by the National Capital Commission which is a senior level of government. In the general, Council acknowledges the rights of the senior levels of government to plan and develop their lands but will encourage discussion about proposed land uses before implementation. I've attached a copy of the Ig zone of Zoning By-law 333-1999, as amended, and you will note that it provides a broad range of uses. I would also encourage you to read the Official Plan policies at www.ottawa2020.ca. Find the Official Plan in the left margin and under Table of Content Section 3.5 Greenbelt. Please do not hesitate to contact me or Cairine if you have any further questions. |
